The preamplifier has a DI input, a microphone input and a line input. The maximum input gain is 65 dB, and can be adjusted with a rotary switch in 5 dB increments. The output level can be varied with a potentiometer, ensuring a clean sound enriched with harmonic distortions. Signals processed in this way are placed firmly into the mix.
The 4 band equalizer is based on a Pultec-like passive coil-based design with one high and one low band each, as well as 2 mid bands. The first of these mid-bands is responsible for the frequency boost, the second for the frequency cut.
The treble band of 6.8 / 8.1 / 12 and 16 kHz with a maximum boost of +18 dB. The mid-range boost band: 1.2 / 1.8 / 2.2 / 3.9 and 5.8, also with a maximum boost of +18 dB. The quality is switchable, and is lowered as the boost is increased.
The mid band for the cut is quite narrow, with centre frequencies at 300 / 400 / 500 / 600 / 700 and 850 Hz.
The bass band is switchable between frequencies of 100 and 200 Hz, and 50 / 70 / 100 and 200 Hz at the peak. The quality at peak is lowered as the boost is raised.
The high pass filter can be switched between the 5 frequencies 30 / 60 / 90 / 150 and 300 Hz.
Due to the passive filter technology of this equalizer the highs are very silky, the basses are deep and solid. Similarities with the Pultec EQP-1a3 and the Lang PEQ-2 are purely coincidental! A wonderful device with a lot of character!
