A mobile recording hub

Boss has long enjoyed a reputation for creating compact and extremely high-performance equipment, and the company's Gigcaster5 - a mobile command centre for modern musicians that is ideal for both conventional multi-track recording and live streaming for social media with a combination of audio and video - proudly continues this tradition (including Boss's customary excellent manufacturing quality, of course). The Gigcaster5's features include a five-channel mixer, a 4.3" touchscreen, an extensive range of connections, and a wide library of presets for guitar, bass, and vocals, and more besides. Since the Gigcaster5 can be used independently - without the need for a computer or additional software - the device is perfect for lessons and tuition as well as for live performances. Since the compact Gigcaster5 makes a lot of other outboard gear superfluous, the user saves both money and space at the same time.

Settings being made on the Boss GCS-5 Gigcaster5

Like a Boss

The Boss Gigcaster5 combines multiple devices - a professional audio interface with 32-bit floating-point processing and 48kHz sampling rate, a five-channel audio mixer suitable for studio and live applications, a high-quality multi-effects section for guitar and bass, a vocal effects unit, a toolbox for mixing and mastering, a dual headphone amplifier, and more besides. Boss has also consciously designed the Gigcaster5 for both stationary and mobile use, which is why it can serve as an entirely stand-alone device and controlled via the buttons and faders on its control interface as well as via the high-res touchscreen. The Gigcaster5 also features a Hi-Z line input for guitars and basses on its front side, while the rear panel features a pair of XLR inputs for two microphone preamps, a stereo AUX input and stereo monitoring output (both in 6.35mm jack format), and two 3.5mm headphone outputs.

For guitar, bass, speech, and vocals

The Boss Gigcaster5 is aimed at musicians who expect a little more from their audio interface than "just" being able to make recordings. Guitarists and bassists in particular will appreciate its 100 professional-quality presets (taken from Boss's flagship GT-1000 processor), which provide both effects and amplifier emulations, together with the additional 200 memory patches for storing their own settings. The Gigcaster5 can therefore also be used as an amplifier substitute for live performances with in-ear monitoring. Its extensive connectivity (which includes a Bluetooth interface) means it will also prove an immensely valuable companion during guitar and bass lessons, where it is often necessary for two instruments and an external playback source to be connected to a single amp.

About Boss

The Boss brand has been an important part of the Japanese Roland Corporation since the mid-1970s and has caused a sensation from its inception, especially with its compact effect pedals but also multi-effect units and other helpful tools for guitarists. The company's single effect pedals in particular are legendary and can be found in almost every guitarist's home. An incredible 15 million have been sold to date. With its Katana series, the manufacturer now also offers excellent amplifiers at a very interesting price point.

Mobility through USB-C connectivity

As mentioned above, the Boss Gigcaster5 can be used as a stand-alone device (requiring only the Boss PSD-230 power adapter included in the scope of delivery) and is thus ideal for live performances, for recording on the go, and for use in the tuition environment. The Gigcaster5 is also compatible with many devices that support USB-C connectivity, including desktop and laptop computers and especially modern smartphones and tablets. The user can thus make professional-quality audio recordings whenever and wherever they wish - all they need is the Boss Gigcaster5 and a mobile phone, in addition to which a professional-sounding mix can also be created on the spot using the wealth of integrated effects.

Affordable digital mixer
Gossha 03.01.2024
I use it to connect my computer, keyboard and guitar. The guitar sounds great, the effects are good, it just has a little latency on the main output while there is none on the headphones.

Endlich genau das ideale Gerät für Live-Streams!
TapaTVde 04.09.2023
