It's what's in the specs.
04.02.2017
Perfect work, good volume without distortion.

The tube inside is Chinese, but for microphones it's not the best but it does the job, in my case I did not buy it for working with microphones.

I am going to tell you a secret, I bought to put on my Pedalboard Guitar, I changed the tube for a Tube Amp Doctor RT080 7025 WA sounds smooth top, full gain, medium fat, tight under my Stratocaster looks like it speaks gorgeous natural harmonicas, my ESP EC was charming.
In the signal chain before the distortion sounds crystal clear and does not need to play with the maximum volume of the guitar, at the end of the signal chain the reverberation, echo, modulation, delays sounds 1000% better crystalline sound and times I listened,

But taste is personal, for me it sounds great, and for the price of course why not test.

Very good tube preamp
Matja?, 03.07.2014
At the time I was buying this preamp (4 years ago), I was looking for simple preamp with a tube. Since then, I was using ART Tube MP in many different settings. I am going to explain few of my common setups.

Preamp for passive pickup instrument:

I own few passive pickup instruments. As they need to have a preamp anyway, using tube preamp gives them a bit warmer sound. In that setting, if you raise output gain with slightly lowering input gain, you get a very nice warm drive effect that I really like (if not used excessively).

Preamp for vocals (used on microphone):

Some vocalists like a worm effect that you get if you use this product with their microphone before receiving the signal to your audio interface/mixing device. I know that it can be done digitally, but you cannot beat the real thing.

Preamp for condenser microphones:

As condenser microphones tend to sound dry, I like to use them in combination with ART Tube, as this gives a nice warmth to output sound. (ART Tube have phantom power option for input devices, so this is indeed possible).

Active DI-box:
You can use ART Tube as an active DI-box.

Pros:
ART Tube is very simple to use. It does its job great and I never had any problems with operating it. I am still using my first amp (4 years) and it is not hard to replace it, after the tube dies. It can power phantom powered mics.
It is also not expensive to afford.

Cons:
The device is not packed with features, and as with all tube devices, you need to always handle it with great care.

Conclusion:
ART Tube is a simple device, and can be used in many situations. I am very satisfied with the product and would recommend it.

Great little peace of gear - in studio or on location
30.08.2016
Used two of them for few years now - sound is warm and noise is really low, pots are of good quality - no noise when turning knobs. You can see knobs and buttons from far away, so no surprise is possible on high gain!

I liked them the most on Grand Piano with large diaphragm mics, close miking - really rich sound!

For DI box, I used it only once on acoustic guitar with pick up and it was great mixed together with Neumann mic for ambience!

Vocals are rounder and need almost no EQ.

Pros:
A lot of gain, low noise, warm sound, sturdy, small and light, easy to control.

Cons:
Sound is a bit altered, so you cannot use them for every purpose. Power cable disconnects very easily (and usually it's lifting itself from the ground), also XLR doesn't have a lock, so avoid placing it where someone could accidentally pull the cables out.

Great value for low price, especially if you need extra preamps for your sound card on late sunday afternoon recording session!

Simple and strongly addictive device
Richardieu, 18.02.2019
Just love it for its simplicity and usfullness. If you want to change the sound, just change a different tubes and find your favourite. I use it to kick my old Fender Bassman 135 and it helps with headroom and pumps up more volume out of it. Good enough in studio or just bring it to a sound guy at the concerts and he will shake your hand and will thank you.

Awesome versatile tube pre
31.01.2016
The ART Tube MP is the first tube pre I have ever used. I bought it because I loved the sound of tube equipment when listening to other people playing and wanted to get acquainted with a cheap version of it before deciding what exactly I'm looking for and committing hundreds of euros.

I use this pre for pretty much everything I play. When playing electric, running my guitar (Epiphone) through this pre before going into an amp (40W Marshall combo) makes for awesome results. Using the full range of input gain and playing around with the amp's gain knobs will result in a very aggressive tone. I don't like this myself but I know some people love it. More moderate settings will result in a powerful, warm sound - there's no other way I can describe it.
When I'm recording acoustic I will typically use two mics for the guitar and record the pickup as well. Running that signal through the Tube MP before it gets to the interface, or even re-recording a clean signal through the Tube MP and mixing those, sounds absolutely gorgeous. The acoustic signal doesn't benefit from a huge amount of gain but just a little bit for tube warmth is fantastic.
I have even used this to add warmth to backing vocals, it can be tricky getting the gain just right but when you do the result will blow you away - it did me, anyway.

I will definitely get more tube gear when budget allows, but I don't think I'll ever stop using this little pre.

Usefull tube pre for a home studio
Darren D, 28.08.2013
I have used this tube preamp for guitar, bass and as a phantom powered mic preamp all with good results. It is very well built for the price a strong aluminum case with good knobs that you are not likely to turn by accident and change a setting without noticing. Used with tame settings it does indeed provide some smooth warmth to a recording and when used on bass with a simple 3 band EQ it does a good job at the tube pre sounding bass amp tone. An ideal thing for any home studio, in my case the only way to get a phantom powered mic into my home pc or portable studio setup.
It does get a bit nasty sounding with high gain settings, probably not the ideal guitar overdrive preamp but fattens up a clean guitar recording very well.
Its dynamic range is stated to be <100dB and I can't detect any more noise introduced into a recording by this pre, nor can I hear any difference in quiet or loud passages by the introduction of this pre to any setup I have tried, if used tamely i would almost call it transparent.

ART tube MP
Reviewer365, 31.05.2013
Simple to use, great for powering phantom mics and the Tube MP brings a real warmth to vocals. Being able to separately adjust input and output on two solidly-constructed dials is brilliant and gives greater flexibility for the final sound - whether in the home studio or at a gig. The chasis is solidly built and the power connector fits snugly into the device without feeling loose (and risking it fall out if moved about) and its compact size make it easy to carry in a guitar gig bag. With xlr and jack in/out it's great for using with microphones or acoustic guitars and hooking up to mixing desks with either xlr or jack inputs. I currently use it to power AKG C1000s (austrian build) and the Tube MP really brings to life the sound picked up by the mic, making it warm and fat and giving great depth to recordings and live performances of vocals (male and female) and acoustic guitars.

A secret weapon
LaszloM, 29.11.2013
To be honest, this little beast is a kind of secret weapon in my studio. It is cheap, so you can think that this is close to crap. NOT AT ALL. Fisrt of all, it doesn't have the strange harmonic distortion that I can hear in case of cheap preamps made by cheap ICs. It is clean (at low gain), no annoying freqs. The amplified signal has proper bass, body and highs. With tube saturation you can get a bit fuller body and nice chimey highs. I think it doesn't have a pure tube amplifying path, so be careful with driving it, at higher gains it will produce unpleasant distortion. I use it mainly for drums and bass, but in some cases it was used for ac guitars and vocals. I highly recommend it if you are a beginner because it will give you the flavour about tube preamp's handling. If you don't need a character preamp, I think it's useful and it is not worth to waste more money for a higher priced preamp, because it does what it needs to be done pretty well.

nice cheap preamp
No Hay Banda!, 14.03.2019
I use this for playing live saxophone with fx. I plug a condenser mic (clipped to my sax) to the ART tube MP's input and use the unbalanced output for sending the signal through my fx pedalboard.

It has phantom power for powering condenser mics and the phase reverse is handy when having buzz noise issues.

Bought this 4 years ago and it still works nicely

Essential equipment.
Paul7701, 06.08.2014
First off, I want to tell you, why 5 stars all the way?, this tube preamp can not be beaten for what it delivers at this price point. simple. Sure, there are much better units out there, but coming in to this pricing range? not even close. This is the go-to preamp for those starting out, or the budget-conscious, this will make your recordings sound better, warm tones, great fat, beefy mids and gain to dial up, (bass guitars sound great) and surprising clarity and depth on vocal recordings, I use an old Rode NT1 and its delicious,,:) highly recommended for those who want to evolve their recording sounds and aren't sniffy about it!
Thomann service and delivery times as always,, 5*, best in the business!

Suprisingly good
Marshall363, 27.04.2014
I just needed one preamp for my mic. Everybody on the Internet said that this is a really good preamp and of course cheap one too. I even saw that there was one laying around in a professional recording studio too when I was recording a song there. So i bought it and it was great. It is small, has a tube in it( which i changed shortly after) has both jack and xlr input/output, has a phantom power , and more.
And when you plug it in you really can hear tube warmness and compression. It really makes your sound in a mix little bit better. I love it!

Incredible value for money
Paul172, 30.05.2013
This is a great way to add valve warmth to your recordings without breaking the bank.
You have switchable 48V phantom power, phase reverse and +20db boost, as well as mic/line input and output.
I mainly use this as a mic pre, but it's also brilliant on my electro-acoustic. You can either just add a bit of warmth, or crank up the input for a bit of bluesy distortion.
In the same vein, I find you can use it to either add warmth to vocals or go anywhere from a little soft clipping to some grittier distortion so it's a pretty musical tool.
In the 6 years I've had it, it's never let me down!

Great as a DI not sure about mic pre
Arnaw, 28.06.2015
Good quality, solid and easy to use. It would be really handy if it had a switch, I don't feel comfortable having it on all the time (for the valve) so I have to keep putting the socket in and out.

I have the preamps on my Focusrite Saffire interface to compare (really nice built-in preamps). I prefer the Art Tube MP as a DI for electric, acoustic and bass guitar, it adds a really nice colour. I also use it live playing electric bass and acoustic guitar before going to the stage DI. I also like it to record electric guitar with a SM 57 (specially overdriven guitars). Not sure about it when I want a natural mic sound, I go for the built-on preamps when I'm using a large diaphragm mic (AT 2050) to record vocals or acoustic instruments. As a conclusion, it does add some colour, although in my case it's not always useful.

For the price is something cool to have in you studio/home-studio.

Mike Pre Amp
Christopher6076, 20.03.2018
I bought this to use with my condenser mike, the Retro Tube 2 from Thomann. Now I use it for all my mikes and guitars for recording and it makes balancing levels super easy and warms up the sound. It works perfectly at a super price. Try one!

Awesome preamp
vaas, 23.08.2017
We use this preamp for our singer's vocal effects pedal board. His board contains guitar stompbox pedals, meaning his microphone signal needs to get boosted before it enters the fx chain. The ART Tube MP is perfect for this. Connect the line out to the input of the first stompbox; no reamp box needed. Great stuff!

Great little preamp
Andi1641, 18.04.2015
I ordered this as part of the rebuild for my studio. Having used several mic preamps in the past of varying quality and cost I was trying to find something that would give me a warmer sound off the mic. A friend of mine already had one and swore by it, so after 'test driving' the ART Tube i new it was the preamp i needed for my setup. The warmth and tone I have been able to produce using this is so much better than some others in a higher price bracket! well worth getting whether you are a bedroom recorder or have a full studio. awesome little porduct.

A must for home recordings
22.11.2016
I use Tube MP for my home recordings. I had one for 6 years, but after moving to a new place i lost it, so i just replaced it. The sound is warm and almost noiseless. The pots and case are quality. Vocals, acoustic and electric guitars all sounds better, warmer.

A lot of gain, low noise, warm sound, sturdy, small and light, easy to control.

Never had any problem with it!
Great value for low price.

Great little MP
14.09.2016
For the price this is a great little product, adding a bit of tube warmth to whatever you think requires it.

Obviously it's no SPL Gold Mike or Avalon tube pre but its not claiming to be. Its a little box sub $50 which gives some extra colours to your pallette.

I will be mostly using it to provide phantom power to my SM87a which I then run through a pedal board, i bought this as i thought it would be more interesting them just running a phantom power supply.

I have used it on vocals in a song i'm mixing at the moment and it sounds good, it rounded the sound and with it driven brings it to the front of the mix. I have also sent a kick drum through it, which sounded really good, giving a warmth to an otherwise dull kick drum.

Really pleased so far, especially at this price mark.

Bought for a home studio setup. The Art tube MP added a nice warm preamp sound for both condenser microphone and a SM58 dynamic mic.
